Sample questions with answers and explanations

Sample 1

A teacher modifies activities for a student with autism — providing visual schedules and sensory breaks. Which strand best fits?

Answer: A

Why the answer fits: Strand 3.3 directly addresses learners with disabilities, giftedness, and talents. Modifying activities for an autistic student (visual schedules, sensory breaks) is exactly the strand 3.3 expectation. Strand 3.1 (general needs) is too broad.

Tip: For PPST diversity scenarios, match by GROUP TYPE: gender = 3.1, language/culture = 3.2, disabilities/giftedness = 3.3, indigenous = 3.4, difficult circumstances = 3.5.

Why the other choices are wrong
  • B. 3.1 covers general needs/strengths — but disability is specifically 3.3.
  • C. HOTS isn't the focus here.
  • D. Assessment design isn't the activity modification described.

Sample 2

Teacher V mentors junior teachers, models exemplary practice, and is recognized as a leader who initiates collaborations and improves the practice of others. Which PPST Career Stage describes her?

Answer: C

Why the answer fits: 'Mentors junior teachers,' 'recognized as a leader,' and 'initiates collaborations' are all Stage 4 (Distinguished) markers. 'Recognized leader who initiates' goes beyond Highly Proficient (which mentors) into Distinguished territory.

Tip: Distinguished cues = 'recognized as leader,' 'initiates collaborations,' 'lifelong impact,' 'global best practices.' Watch for non-PPST decoys like 'Master Teacher.'

Why the other choices are wrong
  • A. Proficient is independent but not yet a leader of others.
  • B. Highly Proficient mentors colleagues and provides support, but Distinguished is the LEADERSHIP/RECOGNIZED LEADER level — and 'initiates collaborations' + 'recognized as leader' points to Distinguished.
  • D. 'Master Teacher' is a DepEd RANK, not a PPST Career Stage.

Sample 3

A teacher in a fishing community designs lessons that reference fishing, tides, and local seafood — making content relatable. Which strand?

Answer: A

Strand 6.1 covers learning environments that are responsive to community contexts — making the school connect to the lives, work, and culture of the community it serves. Designing lessons around fishing, tides, and local seafood for a fishing community fits this directly. Strand 4.3 also touches on relevance, but 6.1 is specifically about the environment reflecting the community.

Why the other choices are wrong
  • B. 4.3 is about program adaptation — close, but 6.1 specifically frames it as community-responsive.
  • C. 3.5 is for INDIGENOUS groups specifically, not all local communities.
  • D. 1.1 is content mastery, not community connection.
